INVITING, TRANSFORMING, IMPACTING

H O P E   II Corinthians 5:8  August 27, 2010  Vance Havner repeated the old story of  a seasick man leaning in agony over the rail when a friend said, “Cheer up! Seasickness never killed anybody.”  “Don’t tell me that, “ groaned the suffering voyager, “it’s the hope of dying that has kept me alive!”  Aren’t you glad that there is something beyond this temporal, fast evaporating life we live? This coming December marks 67 years I have been on this old earth and I agree with David that our “years are faster than a weaver’s shuttle”…haven’t you wondered recently where the days have gone? Pause for minute and just reflect on the passing years, where have the last 25 gone?  No small wonder that our Lord tells us not to count our years, but number our days, Psalm 90:12, Do you know how many “days” old you are?  Lets redeem the time, be busy about our Father’s business and make sure we not only add years to our life, but life to our years. It is true, “Only one life twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last”. If you are within driving distance of Blaise Baptist Church here in Mocksville, NC, it would be an honor for me to see you this Lord’s Day, and have you as a part of our worship and fellowship around our wonderful Lord. Blessings, TMW

August 20, 2010  “How To Iron Our Your Differences Without Getting Burned”  Romans 12:18  One translation of this verse says, “live in harmony with each other”.  I am told that our English word “arm” comes from the same root word as “h a r m o n y”.  The key word being “harmos” meaning "joint".  My arm is attached to my shoulder at its joint.  When all of the four different voices of the scale sing in harmony,  their voices blend in harmony and the sound is pleasant to the ear.  When the arm is “out of joint” with the shoulder, and when the voices are out of harmony, there is strain, stress, and scratching!  It sure feels good, if you had had a bone out of joint, to get it back in place.  You CAN keep in harmony with your spouse, children, workplace, and church family, when you keep short accounts, readily forgive,  avoid things and words that get things “out of joint” .here is how:Be always ready to make amends.  Never hesitate to say, “I am sorry”.  Always be ready to apologize.  Remember, it takes two to argue. Proverbs tells us that “where there is no wood the fire goes out”  Proverbs 26:20.   You can iron out differences without getting burned, try it, and the Holy Spirit, who is the provider of peace, will help you.  Blessings, tmw

"Servant"  Philippians 2:7-8  Why is this word so disliked by most folks today?  Our society has done its best to eliminate words and job titles that they consider offensive or demeaning.  The interested student of God's Word quickly becomes aware of the fact that the happiest people are those who find themselves serving!  In fact, we are most like our Lord when we are serving.  Even the Apostle Paul addressed himself as a servant of Jesus Christ, and told the Corinthian saints that he was their servant for Jesus sake,  II Corinthians 4:5. You have noted that even the title "Deacon" means to wait upon or serve.  Once you learn the secret of this great aspect of being a Christian, you will never be happier.  What all this really means is that the key to real joy is not what can I get out of this or the feeling that "nobody does anything for me", but what can I do for you today to make your day better  Then daily from my heart, live with the desire of "whatsoever i do i do as unto the Lord and not unto men".  The old little couplet is true, "Others, yes, Lord others; Let this my motto be; Help me to live for others, that I may live like Thee."  Why not ask the Lord what it is that you might do for Him today, be His servant, and look for someone to do something for in His name.   tmw

“WELL PLEASING” June 29, 2010  II Corinthians 5:19   Surely it must be the longing of every sincere believer, to “please” and be “accepted” of our Lord.   It is interesting as you stop at some of the portraits in the art gallery of the Word of God, to note those who had an inmost concern to “please” God.  Of special interest are the words of our Heavenly Father about His Son in Matthew 3:17, “…in whom I am well pleased”.  Do you find your self longing to please as well?   One of the attributes we know that pleases God is FAITH, Hebrews 11:5-6.  No wonder that one of the most assaulted by Satan, areas of our lives is the matter of faith in God and His Word.  Than too, we read further on in Hebrews 13:15-16, that the offering of praise to God is “pleasing” to Him, thus I should praise Him continually.  Of note to the interested student of the Word is the reference in Romans 12:1-2 to the word “acceptable”, which is also, translated “pleasing”.  Get your concordance out and trace some more references to “pleasing” and “acceptable” and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to all those actions and attitudes that you can render that make the heart of God satisfied, and bring Him joy and gladness!  I like you want to be numbered with those who do.  tmw

June 20, 2010     DADS   Nehemiah 4:14   There is a natural born desire in a father, to protect his wife and children.  It is incumbent on all dads to provide the necessities of life for his family.  His main concerns center around shelter, food, clothing, spiritual and academic education.  Included in his responsibilities is to afford them physical as well as moral protection.  The family does not exist long before it becomes obvious that there are some very real enemies that would seek to destroy all that is right and good.  Dads, the responsibility of defending your family from all of its enemies is never ending.  In the account mentioned for today, Nehemiah admonishes his men to “fight for their wives, sons and daughters”.  Like it or not, sooner or later a man must “draw a line in the sand”, and determine to take a stand for God, family and country.  Men, if we ever needed your influence for righteousness, it is now!  Make it a priority to “bring your children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord”.  Lead your family in private and public worship, don’t send them to church, take them.  Make sure your wife and children hear you call their names in prayer, hear you say you love them, and feel your arms around them.  Control what they see and hear on TV, games, CD’s, etc, and with their friends.  The “break in the dike” may not seem to big or dangerous now, but left unchecked, it will bring a flood tide of devastation and destruction.  At Blaise Baptist Church, it is our intention to assist you in the defense of your family with Biblical principles and instruction that will make you victors and not victims.  tmw

“T R O U B L E D”  II Cor 4:8 June 3,2010  Ever wonder what it must have been like to travel with the aged apostle Paul?  Even a surface reading of his journeying reveals sunshine, rain, storms, revivals, riots and trouble.  Through all of the difficulties he went through, there was one unmovable anchor for his  soul and spirit that “oft refreshed” him, and that was this great admission of certainty,  “nevertheless the Lord stood with me”  II Timothy 4:17.  You will do yourself, heart and mind a great favor to get your hymn book out and read the words of John Newton in his grand old song of testimony, “HOW TEDIOUS AND TASTELESS THE HOURS”.  Here is a brief line from this dear saints heart…”Sweet prospects, sweet birds, and sweet flowers, have all lost their sweetness to me.  The mid-summer sun shines but dim: The fields strive in vain to look gay: But when I am happy with Him, December’s as pleasant as May.”  The key to this great song is really in the second verse,  “His name yields the richest perfume, And sweeter than music His voice, His presence disperses my gloom…”  I am sure that we all have had those “tedious and tasteless hours” when life seemed to cave in, hope had vanished, and nothing seemed right.  Our mind and spirit all seemed as gloomy as the cloud covered day. Then the sun burst forth, the fog was dispersed, the clouds vanished and the day was changed!  No less true for the trusting child of God, when “…His soul cheering presence is restored..”  Do not be disheartened when dark days come, keep looking up, the shadows will flee away, the rainbow will appear, and “standing somewhere in the shadows, you will find Jesus”  tmw
May 20, 2010           S O N G S   Colossians 3:16  Ever notice the several references in the Word about songs and singing?  Actually the first reference to singing is in Exodus 15, immediately after the crossing of the Red Sea.  The only folks who really have something to sing about are the redeemed!...The world makes a lot of noise, but until you have experienced Redemption, you have no song to sing. Trace out a few verses about the disciples singing as they left the passover supper and were headed out to see their Lord arrested and then crucified.  Matthew 26:30.  The you read of a duet in Acts 16:25, when Paul and Silas prayed and sang together in spite of the fact that their backs were bloody.  Than you read of a solo in Colossians 3:16, where we are instructed to have a song in our heart, mind and voice virtually continually!  And then in one great choir  we will find ourselves singing praise to the One who has redeemed us and join with the blood washed of all time, to sing a new song, Revelation 5:9, and praise His glorious Name forever!  Should we not find ourselves singing and making melody in our hearts to our Lord for all that He has done for us? Here is a starter suggestion, "Redeemed how I love to proclaim it, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, redeemed by His infinite mercy, His child and forever I am" tmw
May 13, 2010 “ O P E N “  Psalm 118:19  If you are sensitive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you soon learn that God opens and closes doors ( Rev. 3:8 ) as well as other points of entrance.  Great lesson for believer is not to “pick the lock”.   Learn well the lesson of knowing when to knock or leave the door shut.  Consider some things that should be” OPEN” for the glory of God.  I. Our EARS Psalm 40:6.  Attend church this Lord’s Day and ask of Him the same request as did David, Lord Open my ears to hear your Word.  II. Our EYES   Psalm 119:18.  What a difference the Living Word becomes when the Holy Spirit “illumines” your eyes to see our Savior on every page of Holy Writ.  III. Our LIPS Psalm 51:15.  How can we hear the Word, see our Lord crucified, risen and coming again, and keep silent about how wonderful He is?  His praise should be continually upon our lips.  IV. Our HEART, Revelation 3:20.  Lord, when you knock at the door of my heart, I readily bid you enter immediately ‘ere you pass by.  “Pass me not O gentle Savior, while on others Thou art calling, do not pass me by”.  Here is a simple assignment for this Lord’s Day, ask God to “open” your heart, mind, ears, eyes, and lips as to come to church and expect a blessing.  I am confident you will be strengthened, blessed and encouraged; your Savior will become more wonderful to you as He fills and floods your heart with His love.  tmw                                                                                        thot for the day.... April 30, 2010  Edward Caswall translated the the words to this great hymn set to music by John Dykes,  "JESUS THE VERY THOUGHT OF THEE" Jesus, the very thought of Thee with sweetness fills my breast; But sweeter far Thy face to see, and in Thy presence rest. No voice can sing, no heart can frame, nor can the memory find a sweeter sound than Jesus' name, O Savior of mankind!  O hope of every contrite heart! O Joy of all the meek! To those who fall, how kind Thou art! How good to those who seek!  But what to those who find? ah! this, No tongue or pen can show the love of Jesus, what it is none but His loved ones know."  Read, memorize and contemplate and let your mind, heart and soul bask in the wonder of our great Savior.  tmw

"T H R O U G H"   Psalm 84:6 April 27, 2010  Recall the words to that grand old song sung by quartets, soloists and choirs, “Til The Storm Passes Over”.  Reassuring to the believing heart that the storm is temporary. The old black preacher had it right when he said, “It did not come to stay, it came to pass”.  King David is writing in this wonderful Psalm about being away from Jerusalem and the temple, the dwelling place of Jehovah.  It is clear that his heart is longing for the courts of God, and how “amiable” i.e. beloved, they are to him.  He also remarks that even the sparrow and swallow have a more enviable place in the temple of God compared to his wandering in the wilderness. He states that he would even take the place of a door-keeper and stand on the threshold than to be in any tents of the wicked.  Than he sounds a clarian statement in vs 6 about “passing THROUGH the valley”.  He knew that his exile from God’s house would not be indefinite and he would pass “through” this valley.  Take some time to trace out this great word and its implication in Psalm 23:4, Psalm 66:12, Isaiah 43:2 and I Peter 1:7.  All these great texts remind us that we will go “through” and that the trial is not permanent and we will emerge the better and stronger. Blessed be the Name of the Lord for His protection, wisdom and love.   tmw

April 15, 2010  “SUPPOSITION” Luke 2:44   After a great day of celebrating the remembrance of the Passover, and worship at the Temple, Joseph and Mary started home. Much to their surprise and shock, after a long day’s journey, they realized Jesus was not with them! Tragic indeed when parents can not find their children. Verse 43 of the story tells us “they knew not of it”. How many individuals, churches and organizations march merrily on their way, supposing the Lord is going with them, yet they are devoid of His presence? They did the thing we should do when He is not present, vs. 45, “they turned back again…seeking him”.   Sure enough, they found him right where they had left him, in the Temple.   Could it be that that is where you left him, in Father’s House, worshipping? Years of experience and ministry has taught me that most folks exit church assuming our Lord’s presence but are completely unaware that he is not with them because they were offended by  something said, some caustic look or attitude from another “worshipper”, the preachers message, an off key soloist or choir, too much said about money, or even that some new visitors was sitting in “their seat”, heaven forbid!!! Perhaps you need to get back in his House and find him too, right where you left him! Timothy Mark Wolf

“S O M E T H I N G  N E W “ April 10, 2010  Revelation 21:5  Glad for us that our God is in the “Second Chance Business”.  He is the Lord of the “New Birth”, fresh starts, healed marriages and relationships, starting over and new-creations.  In Revelation, we have His promise to make all things new”.  So distorted and marred by sin, this old world, its creation and inhabitants will need a new beginning.  Won’t that be a grand day?!   I read this week that one, Eva Uhlin, of Sweden, lost all her facial skin to an allergy in 2005.  But her skin has grown back with no outward sign of scarring!  Sounds not unlike what God did for Naaman in II Kings 5:14.  This Lord’s Day, April 11, here at Blaise Baptist Church, we celebrate  50 years of serving our God here at this local.  We begin a brand new 50 yrs of anticipating His return while occupying til He comes!.  I would that if you are within driving distance you will be a part of this “fresh and new start” of another 50 yrs of labor in the harvest field for our Savior!   Timothy Mark Wolf

Resurrection of the Dead  April 4, 2010     When you read Acts 19:31-34, you are made to contemplate the wonders of the power of God.  We are told in Romans 1:4 that our dear Lord Jesus was declared to be the Son of God with power when God raised Him from the dead!..Thus, when this wonderful truth is proclaimed some months later in the city of Athens, Paul's listeners are spell bound that the "unknown" god that they really named quite well, is none other than the God of creation and  Redeemer of sinful and unbelieving men!..and so follows the response of all who hear the Gospel, some mock, some postpone, and some believe!. Quite obvious and striking to say the least, is that there are no names remembered of the doubters, only the believers!..Dionysius and Damaris, both of whom we who today believe ,will meet in heaven! and not only that,  vs 34 closes with this great phrase, "and others with them".  Did you know that the on going story and power of the Gospel has reached to us to be included in "the others".  The only remaining question this glad Lord's Day is have you or will you believe? I rejoice today in that I do believe and am thankful to be a part of the "others with them", aren't you?  Happy Easter, Timothy Wolf
" G R A C I O U S  W O R D S "   April 2, 2010  This glad Lord’s Day as well as the other 51of the year, is not only the Foundation Stone of Christianity, but the capstone as well!...My requests to my Lord as well as you dear loved ones in the Faith, is that the Holy Spirit will so fill and use me that the same thing that was said of our Lord will be true of this undeserving servant of the Most High God.  You will read in Luke 4:22, that the folks attending in the synagogue that morning upon hearing our Lord read the Old Testament scripture concerning Himself, remarked about the “gracious words that proceeded out of His mouth”.  Since the early hours this a.m. some time around 3 , it has been upon my heart to ask our Lord to help me to read His Word is such a way that the hearers would be blessed as to the graciousness of our Savior.  No minister of the Gospel should read God’s Word without love and grace being evident in his tone and inflection. I have learned and I am sure you have heard , that there is something wonderful and powerful in just the reading of this precious Book.  Read anew Psalm 29, and see that the “voice of the Lord is power”.  Will you join me in prayer and beseech God that His Word will be read , spoken and explained this Sunday in the fullness and power of the Holy Spirit, that closed hearts will be opened, cold hearts warmed, hard hearts broken, and believers stirred to love Him more.  I can hardly wait til Sunday with the expectation of what our Lord will do through His Word.   blessings, tmw

March 24. 2010      “G O D  I N  N E E D “  Luke 19:29-40   The believing child of God finds himself in awe when he reads that our God uses us to accomplish His purposes!  One of the great wonders of the Word of God, is that the omnipotent God of creation, actually has need of His people and their possessions.   In Luke’s account of our Lords entry into Jerusalem, He sends His disciples to prepare the way before Him and gives instruction as to what they will find.  In answer to the owners questioning as to what they were doing in loosing his donkey from his post, their response was simply that “ the Lord hath need of him”.  Is that not sufficient reason for the surrender of our selves and anything we own to His service?  The grand truth of this little story is that our Lord shares what He is doing with us.  He actually needs us to accomplish His purposes.  Not that He needs us because He has no other choice, but because He delights in being co-laborers with us.  Can you imagine being a partner with God?  Our God could have chosen any number of ways to accomplish His purposes, that is clear from vss 37, 40. The rocks will praise Him if we do not, but He delights in our praise!  In your leisure Bible study, consider the things our Lord chooses to need and delights in using….I. Obeying Servants 19:32  II. Dumb Animals 19:30,33   III. Surrendered Possessions 19:35-36  IV. Joyful Praise  19:37,40  Contemplate from the depths of your heart, this heart thrilling truth that God needs you to be a part of His plan and purposes for time and eternity.  The wonder is found in verse 32, that as they went ( obeyed ) they “found even as he had said unto them”, and so will you, for He goes before us and takes care of every need and question.   Get involved, obey His call, He needs you and so do we here at BBC.  If you are within driving distance of this church, why not come on over this Lord’s Day and be here at 9:30 a.m. for worship and see what God is doing in this corner of the vineyard.  TMW

"W I T N E S S "  March 4, 2010  Article on the front page of last Sunday's newspaper" PARADE" magazine is a quote from Diane Sawyer, " I WANT TO BE A POWERFUL WITNESS".   I know that she is not necessarily speaking about the Gospel, but the article does state that she was raised with a Methodist background, and I hope at least she has heard and knows the Gospel.  But my attention was captured by the title.  I readily agreed with her statement! What better or greater desire than to be a "powerful witness" for our Savior? That is accomplished only by the indwelling Holy Spirit of God, and "letting the Word of God dwelling in us richly",Colossians 3:16  Then we join the early disciples in asking our God to grant us the boldness we need to tell of our wonderful Savior.  Acts 4:29  May the blessed Holy Spirit enable you today to be a "powerful witness" of  our God's saving grace to this needy world. TMW

February 24, 2010    “ S U F F I C E “   Ruth 2:14   As a believing child of God, you have been in wonder at the abundance of our Lord’s provision. How does He provide all the food for His creation and His people?   Everywhere you turn, you see His extravagance. Just how does one acorn produce an oak tree, which in turn reproduces acorns without number? Think of a kernel of wheat or corn---can man possible calculate how many other kernels come from just that one? Here in the story of Ruth, we read of at least two references ( 2:14, 18) that she was completely “sufficed” with the food given to her. The word used actually means “ more than enough”. Isn't that just like our God? The story continues in vs 18 with the word here meaning “left over”. Even after she had eaten all she wanted, there was more left over. For your further interest and encouragement, read John 6:12 about not only the people were filled, but also the baskets that were “filled” with the pieces of bread not eaten, because there was so much food provided by our Lord. One final reference in the Old Testament leads us to Deuteronomy 8:9 and we are reminded that God’s people “lacked nothing” in all their journeys, and I remind you dear child of the same God, nor will you! Praise His glorious Name! TMW

Februay 11, 2010  “ I T  W O R K S “  Hebrews 6:19  Just back home on Tuesday last after a trip to Morehead City for the graveside service for my wife’s mother, Marie Guthrie.  We had watched her grow progressively weaker over the past several weeks, and finally our Lord called her Home to His Heaven Friday, February 5th at 1 p.m. Although it is painful to say “good bye for now” to our loved one, it is certainly reassuring to experience the wonderful hope that we will see her once again! If Christianity does not work at the death bed and grave side, it works no where—for most “religions” can tell you to live a good life, abide by their rules, be a good citizen and neighbor and do good deeds, but only the foot prints of the Living Son of God lead into and exit the tomb.  Because our Lord has conquered sin, death and the grave, He now offers peace and joy to those who trust Him.  I can tell you with all assurance and confidence IT WORKS! The ANCHOR HOLDS.    Listen to the words of this great poem by Priscilla Owens and put to melody by William Kirkpatrick, WE HAVE AN ANCHOR: “Will your anchor hold in the storms of life, When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?  When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain, Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?  It is safely moored, ‘twill the storm withstand, For ‘tis well secured by the Savior’s hand; Though the tempest rage and the wild winds blow, Not an angry wave shall our bark o’er-flow.  We have an anchor that keeps the soul Steadfast and sure while the billows roll, Fastened to the Rock which cannot move, Grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love.”  Blessed be the glorious Name of our Captain, the Lord Jesus Christ our Anchor.  It held this past week-end and it will continue to do so.   Here at BBC we endeavor to introduce folks to the Anchor and we want you to know that when the storms of life threaten, He will hold you, and the Anchor will not let you go down nor under.   Why not be a part of our worship of this wonderful Savior and be present this Lord’s Day as we give praise to the One who keeps us secure in His love.  You will glad you attended.    Timothy Wolf

February, 2, 2010  S N O W  I just read that the largest snow flakes, (how can they be called "flakes"?) ever recorded were in a snow storm in Fort Keogh, Montana, in 1887, they  were 15 inches wide and 8 inches thick!  God asked Job a question in Job 38:22, about the "treasures of the snow".  What a wealth of study!  We know that no two flakes are exactly alike, the design is awe inspiring to say the least.  You are already remembering that God told His people to come to Him and "reason" "debate" or "argue" the fact that though their sins were red as crimson, they could be white as "snow", Isaiah 1:18.  Only the blood of Jesus Christ can make that transformation, and if you have experienced that, than you should praise Him anew, and if you have not, than today you can!  for the "blood of Jesus Christ His Son, cleanseth us from all sin". There are more wonderful blessings in the snow that enriches the earth, study a few and be blessed by the truths of our Creator and Redeemer.  TMW

P O W E R  January 22, 2010    Did you hear about the man who sent his New Testament to be rebound. The binder could not fit the words New Testament on the spine of  the book, so he abbreviated it TNT.  Little did he know how true was his improvising. The Holy Spirit does take the Word of God and fills  us with power. The explosive power of the Holy Spirit indwelling us( Acts 1:8) is what enables us to be bold witnesses and more than conquerors in life. When you read Romans 1:16, you realize that the “du na mis”, i.e. the Greek word from which we get dynamite, is the explosive power of God. It can change even the hardest of hearts. No small wonder than that the Word of God is likened to a hammer that can break stony hearts and bring them to Himself. As you share your needs and concerns with our mighty God today, trust and ask Him to bring His power to bear on those people and matters that you know need Divine intervention.  TMW

January 18, 2010   PRIORITIES   Ever get things out of kilter?  Not hard to do in our busy hurry up society.  Seems as though we have more time saving devices and less time than ever before.  There are a few things that never change, and our God has made it quite simple for success in every area of our lives, when we follow His instruction for peace and happiness.  Here they are:  WORSHIP GOD,  LOVE PEOPLE, USE THINGS .  The danger lies in the confusing and mixing up of these priorities, which many do.  Our Lord made it clear when Satan tried to get Him to worship him, that we are to worship God and no one else.  Matthew 4:10, and the angel said the same thing to John in Revelation 22:8-9. The next priority is LOVE PEOPLE, and that was the 2nd and great commandment our Lord spoke to the scribe in Mark 12:30-31, to love our neighbor as our self.  Clearly the best way to do that is to be as merciful to others as we want God to be with us.   Finally USE THINGS. Everything we have really finds meaning when it is pressed into service for our Lord.  God is not opposed to us having things, Matthew 6:33, but they really find value when used not just for self, but in their enabling us to serve God and help others.  Ask our Lord to help you keep these three priorities  in proper order.  Do not get them confused.  Life gets tangled when folks get them out of order and wonder why nothing goes right. God desires your worship, someone needs you genuine love, and the things you possess will help you in spreading the Good News of what God has done for you through the person of His Son Jesus Christ.  TMW
January 11,2010  "G O O D   S P E E D "    Greetings and love in the matchless name of our Lord.   Hope this finds you well and WARM !.  My thought for today comes from Genesis 25:12 where Abraham’s servant asks God for “good speed” this day.  One translation says it this way, “give me success and help me to accomplish the purpose of my journey.”  Thus my request for  you and myself  is to" accomplish the purpose of our journey”, that being the presentation of the Word of God under the full influence and power of the Holy Spirit, to the end that our Lord will be glorified, Sts edified, and sinners converted.  That is the only lasting and eternal purpose of any effort in the preaching  and telling others of this old Book.  Unless eternal results are recorded in the hearts of the hearers, our time is vain. The mere entertainment of worshippers is empty. So, as we preach, teach and witness to others,  lets join together to beseech and trust our God that these frail lips of clay of yours and mine will sound forth the eternal riches of His grace and exalt the wonders of the forgiveness that is found in His cleansing blood. By the way, have your ever wondered what the greatest word in the Bible is? tmw

January 5, 2010  "I S   T H E R E   A N Y   R O O M?”   Genesis 24:23   What a great question posed by Abraham’s servant. You are recalling a similar situation when Joseph and Mary came into Bethlehem after a long and wearisome journey, seeking lodging they were told that there was no room for them. Several generations removed from the union of the bride sought for Isaac in the account of Genesis 24, the traveling couple would find out that not every house was ready to “entertain strangers”. What a great word is the answer of Rebekah to Abraham's servant. We not only have room for you, but sufficient straw, provender and water for your camels and food for your men. Blessed be our God for His abundance and extravagance! The servant had asked for “ a little water” vs 17, and not only was there sufficient for him, but his camels as well .  We are told that the average camel can drink 20-30 gallons of water in ten minutes!...think of how much water Rebekah had to draw to satisfy ten camels, at least 200-300 gallons! see 24:10,  “until they had finished” vs 19 . Dear friend, never forget the abundance that our God has to meet all your need. His well of living water is more than adequate to assuage your thirst, and His barns hold all the store your appetite will ever require.   Drink deeply, and “come and dine” at His table of plenty.   TMW

D E C E M B E R  3 1, 2009   " WOLF TRACKS"        Greetings and love in Christ!...Happy New Year !...and may it be your best ever.   I am going to entitle  my blog for the new year “WOLF TRACKS”. Just a new title of thots for your consideration and reminder to pray for each coming Lord’s Day.  Today’s "WOLF TRACKS” are taken from Psalm 71:18….As the pages of the calendar continue to turn faster with each passing year, I am alerted to the fact that I do not have as many days remaining as I have passed.  In this great Psalm 71, David speaks of his youth ( vs 5,17) as well as of his old age ( vs 18).   Since my hair is the same color now as his was when he wrote this , I understand his feeling!!   Job refers to his days as passing like a “weavers shuttle”  Job 7:6.   We all know how many years old we are, yet David tells us we should rather “count our days”. Psalm 90:12.  Since none of us can be sure of how many days we have left, I am asking my Lord , that what ever number of days I do have left, I will endeavor to put into practice the desire of Psalm 71:18.   I give ardent testimony to our God’s strength and power that has proven sufficient for everyone of my 24,098 days!  My Lord’s promise in Deuteronomy 33:25,27, have been a true source of encouragement to me , and I have prayed with countless numbers of God’s children that they would find this true as well.  This Lord’s Day worship at 9:30 a.m. will be but one more wonderful occasion to experience genuine worship and God’s  “strength and power”.  You should be here.  DO NOT MISS IT !  TMW

For This Lord's Day, December 13, 9:30 Worship     Dear Sts, I take a portion from the instruction given to Mary by the Angel Gabriel, from Luke 1:35, concerning the birth of our dear Lord Jesus.  There is a great type and  picture here of every “new birth”.  The Holy Spirit coming upon a person and taking the Word of God to create a “new birth” in the believing heart and surrendered soul.  My concern and trust for this Lord’s Day is to have the “power of the Highest overshadow” me as I declare eternal truths, that souls would “be born” into God’s family, the Sts edified and cold hearts revived.   Please, once again, join me in this most important of endeavors for our Lord.  I Cor 2:4, Luke 1:35 …I know you will attend expecting a blessing, and when you walk from your car to the FLC, your pulse will quicken as you anticipate what will take place in the glorifying of our dear Savior…TMW

“HIS   NAME” Isaiah 9:6  December 4, 2009  Have you ever heard a name more wonderful than JESUS?  Certain names remind us of the character and reputation of the people who bore them. David and Goliath, Moses and the Red Sea, Jonah and the whale. Henry Ford will for all time be associated with automobiles, Edison means inventor and light bulbs, Capone the mob, Disney brings to mind entertainment. J C Penney department stores, Babe Ruth baseball and home runs, Mayo medical clinics and Billy Graham evangelism.   What do you think of when you hear the name Hitler or Judas? What do people think when they hear your name? Your character? Your home? Your job?   God tells us that “even a child is known by his doings, Proverbs 20:11. A blessing two times over is yours if your friends--and God—agree that you have a “good name” Proverbs 22:1   Why not consider anew this Christmas the Names of our great Savior. Contemplate Isaiah 9:6 and let the Holy Spirit guide you into the glories of the Name which is above every Name, the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Messiah, Savior , Redeemer and King, blessed for evermore! Ephesians 1:16-21.   Have a wonderful Christmas, TMW

November 11, 2009 T H  E  T R U E  F O U N D A T I O N  I Corinthians 3:11  The story is told of a building lot that was empty except for the “FOR SALE” sign in the middle of it. That same empty lot had been for sale for a number of years. There was a good reason for that. All who knew the history of that lot would certainly not build on it.   Underneath the lot is a substrata weakness of some kind. Years ago a man built a house there. He had been warned about the weakness and was told that the lot would not be able to bear the weight of a house. But he insisted that he could build a foundation that would carry it.  Ignoring the warnings, he built his house.  True to the gloomy predictions, it began to sink.  Finally, it had to be torn down altogether, and the lot has stood vacant ever since.   Having watched the footings dug, re-bar installed, and the concrete poured, I am confident the Family Life Center has a solid and firm foundation. But more importantly, it is built upon the Rock, Christ Jesus, and will endure until God’s work on earth is finished. I consider it a distinct honor to have a part in the ongoing financial support of this great work for God.  I am asking those of you who are recent additions to our BBC family, to join with me in a renewed commitment to the maintaining of this lighthouse for our Savior.   Blessings,  your friend, TMW

JESUS , I MY CROSS HAVE TAKEN  October 13, 2009      Pioneer radio evangelist Michael Guido of  Metter, Georgia, grew up in a home in which his mother was a Christian but his father was violently opposed to the faith.  Shortly after Michael was converted, a friend told him that his voice was good enough to sing Gospel songs for the Lord.  He was invited to sing for a Friday night evangelistic service.  At the supper table that Friday, Michael mentioned that after supper he was going to sing at a little Methodist church out in the country.  His father jumped to his feet, his face turning red with rage, and shouted, “Tonight you must decide between your father and your new faith.  Which will it be?”  Michael turned to his mother and asked, “Ma, shall I go?” She replied, “Son, put Jesus before your mother and father, put Him first in your life.”  With that, her husband struck her and she fell to the floor bleeding.  Michael tried to step forward to help her, but his father prevented him.  “Tonight," said the older man, “ you must make that decision.  If you go and sing, you can never come home again.  What is your decision?”  Putting on his coat, Michael started to sing, “Jesus, I my cross have take.”  His father cursed him, slammed to door behind him, shouting, “You can’t come home tonight!”  As he left the house, Michael was heartbroken, but the song he was singing became the theme of his life.   Jesus, I my cross have taken, All to leave and follow Thee; Destitute, despised, forsaken, Thou, from hence, my all shall be.  Perish every fond ambition,  All I’ve sought, and hoped, and known;  Yet how rich is my condition, God and heaven are still my own.   My question is  “Have you taken up your cross and followed Him?”   If not , why not?

September 29, 2009    “Proof of Love”   The greatest proof of love is the laying down of ones life for another.  Our Lord states this in John 15:13. Thus it is now known to us that God’s great  love  was demonstrated in Christ when He laid down His life for us, as well as His enemies!  This agape love is that which seeks only the truest good for another, even to the point of self-sacrifice. I have just read the passage in section 9:4 vss 19-20 in the Qur’an that Usama gave me, that Muslims who perform jihad “With their money and with their lives” for the sake of Allah are of greater worth than the others. Since our Jehovah God is no respecter of persons, none of His children are of any greater worth than another, but I am challenged by this statement about serving “with their money and with their lives”.  Question for you and me, “Can we who know the truth, do any less for our Savior and Lord?”  The founding fathers of this great republic we live in called America, felt a similar debt of gratitude for the opportunities afforded them, and they “pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor”, all to a cause greater than themselves.   I want to remind you of the difference your giving is making in the lives of children and  adults, not only on this campus, but in distant lands as well.
"THE SECOND TIME"   Jonah 3:1  September 4, 2009  The sincere student of the Word of God is arrested by both the simplicity and profundity of  God's Word.  This simple expression "the second time" is laden with meaning and application.  It is an expression of God's mercy. Only because God is merciful should He speak once, no less twice!..but because He is merciful, not only to the unsaved but to His disobedient servant, He speak to him again.  It is an example of the new birth and the new nature.  Most all of the first born in the narrative of the Word were types of the horrible sinfulness of mankind and the utter failure of the works of the flesh to please God...it is the "second" birth that is a crystal clear picture of the works of the spirit and the new nature " born from above" that displays redemption.  We should all be glad for the wonderful truth that God has not left us to ourselves, nor abandoned us when He spoke the first time to our lost condition, but came to us and spoke again.  Most wonderful perhaps of all will be that glorious day when He will appear "the second time without sin unto salvation" Hebrews 9:28.  Even so come Lord Jesus !....blessings, TMW
August 28, '09          “SHE HATH DONE WHAT SHE COULD”  MARK 14:8    What better commendation could fall from the lips of our Lord?  That really is all that He expects from any of us, is it not?  Just do to and for Him what we can.  Not all can do the same thing.  But all can do something.  I pose this question to you today, “What can you do?  What act of love and sacrifice could you do as unto Him?  What was it exactly, that our Lord commends Mary for?  I think it was more than the years salary worth of the spikenard,  which Mark describes as “very costly”.  It must have been her courageous and unashamed love for her Lord,  her place of total submission at His feet, and her by faith recognition of His impending death on her behalf. How many lives could we fragrance with the breaking of our precious gifts to Him?  Should it also be the longing of your heart and mine, to love and serve Him with such unabashed abandon, that we too will hear Him pronounce upon us as well, “ they have done what they could”.  Lets do it !   TMW

“I SAW IT ALL”   John 15:1-11      August 7, 2009    J. Hudson Taylor established the China Inland Mission in 1865, envisioning a missionary task greater than any since the days of Paul, the evangelization of China.  Yet overwhelmed by the work, worry and responsibility, he was near a breakdown when he received a letter from a fellow missionary, one John McCarthy.  In the letter, McCarthy spoke from John 15 of abiding in Christ.   As Hudson read the letter at his mission station in Chin-kiang, on Saturday, September 4, 1869, his eyes were opened.  He later recalled, “As I read, I saw it all.  I looked to Jesus, and when I saw, oh how the joy flowed.”   Dear reader, as you read the Word, ask the Holy Spirit to help you see how wonderful Jesus really is.  As you look to Jesus, you too will “see it all” and be “lost in wonder, love and praise”.  It will be true for you as well, that “the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.”

"Not Always Seen" July 28, 2009 - Like it or not, there are days we all have that both the sun and a smile are not always seen.  Dark clouds roll in but the sun is still shinning and hidden back of the clouds.  There is real joy in our hearts but it is hidden under a cloak of pain or sorrow. / In middle Tennessee at the Savage Gulf State Natural Area, there is a river that runs through this area that sometimes disappears into an underground channel.  You can hear it if you put your ear to the ground but you cannot see it.  Further along it reappears, then disappears and it is gone again.  / On my recent flight into Charlotte from Miami at 32,000 feet, you are above the bright clouds and the sun is silvery and glistening.  Then we began our decent and passing through the clouds, the sun was blotted out, yet no less sinning.  /  Blessed be our God, that though the storms come and dark clouds arise, 'there is a river the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God."  /  Some refreshing streams of peace and joy still flow to assuage the pains and sorrows of this old world.  The old chorus is true, "I've got peace like a river in my soul.Though the peace and joy may not be always seen, rest assured, it is there !!...TMW

June 22, 2009       “ O B S T A C L E S “    Numbers 13:31      Did you know that it is possible for two different people to view the same situation as either possible or impossible?!  Who is right, the person who says, “I CAN” or the person who says “I CAN’T”?  Actually, both are right.   In Numbers 13:30-31 you will read of two different opinions concerning conquering the Promised Land.  The observations of both statements are true.  This is also true of all of life.  With God we are able, and with out God we are incapable.   1954, Oxford, England, 25 yr old Roger Banister had heard since he was a boy, that the four minute mile was an impassible obstacle, a barrier virtually impossible to overcome, and no one to date had ever done it. But Roger believed he could do it, and that day ran the first sub-four minute mile ever run!    Perhaps you are faced today with obstacles and situations that seem impossible to overcome.  You are faced with very real and even imagined adversities and obstacles.  I urge you to claim the promises of God, that with Him “nothing is impossible”.  Read Luke 1:37    J.C. Penny the department store magnate, when asked the secret of his success replied with one big word “ADVERSITY”.   And then followed with this statement. “I would never have amounted to anything had I not been forced to come up the hard way.”  Re-read II Cor 12:9 again and claim God’s sufficiency to enable you to do the impossible and then join us here at Blaise Baptist Church as we endeavor to believe our God to do that for, and through us as we serve Him together.   TMW                                      *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *          *

May 27, 2009 “ M Y   D A D “   Genesis 18:19   I am glad today that our Lord could say the same thing of my father, that He said of Abraham long ago.  Not only did my dad know God, God knew my dad!  God had recorded his name in the the Lamb’s Book of Life around 1930 when dad was a teenager in Sr Hi School.  After finishing Seminary in Johnson City, NY, he married Maude Jarvis, and they hitch-hiked on their honeymoon to his sisters home in Pennsylvania to begin their lives together.  They set off to follow our Lord’s leading, and pastored churches in  NY, NJ, Florida, and finally here in  Franklin, NC.  His influence for our Lord and the Gospel will only be known in eternity.  Having served as a representative for a Jewish Mission, numerous Jewish friends came to know Messiah as Savior.  I remember as a boy going to visit family less inmates in Sing Sing prison, the homeless and down and out in the Bowery Mission, and always extending a helping hand to the needy.  He did “command his children after him”, and we were instructed in the Word and Ways of God from church pulpit to kitchen table.  By precept and practice we were taught to love, obey and trust God.  What a legacy has been left to me of believing parents!...My younger sister already in heaven with our parents, my older sister teaching the Word to two different Bible Studies, my brother pastoring in Virginia, nieces and nephews busy in the Lord’s work, and our children and their children attending Bible believing churches.   DADS, on this FATHER’S DAY,  June 21, 2009, I ask and implore you to join me in making sure that our God will be able to say the same thing of you and me…” I KNOW HIM."

J E S U S   A N D   J O E “    May 25,2009    Joe DiMaggio, one of America’s greatest baseball players, played for the New York Yankees from 1936 until 1951.  He lead the Yankees to nine titles in fourteen years.  For his graceful play and leadership, he was  nicknamed by Arch McDonald, the Yankee announcer, “the Yankee Clipper”.  But there is an interruption in Joe’s career,  World War II broke out, and Joe enlisted in the US Army.  Other athletes, as well as college students, factory workers, professional people, etc. all volunteered in the war effort.  In fact, of all the notables that Dartmouth College has produced, there are no graduates from the Classes of 1943, 1944, or 1945.   Of the 164 notables are included members of the U.S. House and Senate, cabinet secretaries and jurists, but among those famous people are these who we remember this Memorial Day, whose careers were interrupted by war, and those who died in battle on foreign countries soil and never returned to these blessed shores. BUT, there is a greater story than famous athletes, college students and everyday hard working Americans who “ loved their country more than life”….it is the glorious story of the love of God, who called upon His only begotten Son the Lord Jesus Christ, to interrupt His position at His Throne, take upon Himself the form of human flesh, condescend to men of low estate, suffer at the hands of Pontius Pilate, give up His life on a cruel Roman cross, die for the sins of mankind, was buried, and arose again the third day to give eternal life and liberty to those who trust Him.  So, on this important Memorial Day, we do well to remember those who have paid the ultimate price and died for their country and comrades in arms…but let us not forget the words of our Lord Jesus, to do in REMEMBRANCE of Him, and show His death, until He comes, to this needy world around us.  Hope you have had a wonderful week-end of remembrance and worship…tmw

H O W   L I T T L E   I T  T A K E S   Dear Reader,  Hope this finds you well and rejoicing in our wonderful Lord!...I read a cute story this week of a man seeking employment at a local farm supply store. The store owner told him, “I don’t thing I have enough work to keep you busy.” The man replied, “You’ll be surprised how little it takes.” I laughed, and then thot of the words of our Lord when He talked about faith in Luke 17:6.   We would be surprised how little it takes, if it is only the size of a grain of mustard seed, great things can be accomplished. You will be surprised what can happen here on the Lord’s Day, if we only believe and trust God with all of our heart. Because ‘SUNDAY RULES” than I ask you once again to ask and believe our God to have His hand of power and passion upon this His servant. Believe God to draw people here and cause decisions to be made that will be of eternal and lasting value.   Don’t forget, as you exit your car and walk in these doors, ask our Lord for PASSION AND POWER!....love ya’all, and will see you this Sunday….remember it is MOTHER’S DAY !!!

F A D E D  F L A G S   April 24, 2009   Robert G. Lee, told of a terrible train wreck that occurred near Kinston, NC.  An excursion train plunged into an open draw bridge on the Elizabeth River, and eighteen passengers were killed or drowned.  An inquiry to determine the cause of the accident heard from the signal man and from the engineer.  The signal man swore under oath that he had waved a red flag,  signaling the train to stop.  The engineer, however, swore that the flag had been white, indicating full speed ahead.  The mystery was solved when the flag was recovered and presented as evidence.  It was a red flag, but it had become so faded in time that I would have appeared white from a distance.  “May Christians have become like faded flag that fails to convey God’s message of warning to imperiled men, “ said Lee.  “Oh, the wrecks that have resulted from the unfaithfulness of those whose Christianity is a faded flag.”  TMW

“W H A T  D O  I  D O ?” April 23, 2009   What do I do when I loose my job after years of faithful service?  How do I deal with evaporated retirement funds—broken dreams---and failing companies?   How do I keep my marriage, my family, and even my sense of mental well-being in tact, in spite of the economic woes of the day?  I cannot control the rollercoaster ride of the stock market, or a vanishing pension plan.  But the one thing I can control is my reaction to all of this!  When I listen to the news of this troubled world around me, do I hear a death knell, or w wake up call? Do I see difficulties as obstacles and tragedies, or as opportunities to trust God?   Is the “fiery furnace” a disaster or an opportunity for me to experience the presence of God walking with me through trials? Is this wilderness journey of life a painful existence or an occasion for my Lord to make my shoes last as iron and brass, and give me strength for whatever the day holds?  Deuteronomy 33:25  Is “JESUS CHRIST (to you) (really) the same yesterday, today, and forever” Hebrews 13:8  Will our God do any less to provide for us, as He did for His people long ago?  Be not dismayed!  Be not discouraged! Hold on! Hold out!  Our redemption draweth nigh!  Our Lord has promised to return and supply every need until He does.   We are going to trust Him and be not afraid.  Philippians 4:19 is not predicated on how good or bad the economy or political climate is around us.   Be steadfast, stay calm, and let not your heart be troubled.  Your God is greater than your problems.  They are temporal, HE is eternal!   Deuteronomy 25:27    TMW

Guest "Blogger" Doug Ivester,  April 10, 2009    As Easter approaches, in my minds eye I observe our Dear Savior suffering on the cross to purchase my pardon.  There is  sadness as I see His great suffering but then there is wonderful joy in knowing that my sins are forgiven, that the debt has been paid.  As I deal with these emotions I am perplexed and ashamed as I wrestle  with current sins.  Ashamed of my weakness and preplexed as to how he could still love me and continue to forgive me.  However, like the debts of the wounded traveller, Jesus, like the good Samaritan, has said of all my future sinfulness, "Set that to my account."  O what a wonderful Savior!!!  Like David said, "It is high, I cannot attain unto it."  "My numerous sins transferr'd to HIm, Shall never more be found, Lost in His blood's atoning stream, Where every crime is drown'd."       Doug Ivester

“CORONATION DAY” EASTER LORD'S DAY, April 12, 2009   This is the day that separates our Redeemer from all other “so called” religious leaders of history.  The one thing that distinguishes our Lord is His bodily resurrection from the dead, by the power and glory of His heavenly Father.  Romans 1:4 clearly tells us that He was raised from the dead , and that proves unequivocally that He is the Son of God. No small wonder then, that just as the early church gathered on the first day of the week to commemorate  the resurrection of their living Lord, so do we.  We do this, not only on this glad Easter day, but every Lord’s Day, as recorded in Revelation 1:10.  Will you join me in a renewed commitment to be present every Sunday to worship our death conquering Savior, who gave us the Blessed Hope that not only those who have gone before, but we with them shall be raised up from the grave to see this wonderful Jesus face to face.   Happy Easter, tmw

April 2, 2009   “ U N B E L I E F “    Matthew 14:31    As a child of God, what would you confess to as being your greatest fear? If writing a list I am sure it would include death, cancer, a debilitating disease, total economic or social or moral failure, or a sin that brings shame to our Lord, church and family. Yes, all would confess to these as well as others on a list. But because I bear the name “believer”, I admit to my greatest fear being that of doubting my Lord and His word. Since faith “pleases” God (Hebrews 11:6) than doubt and unbelief certainly must cause our Lord to be grieved. Hebrews 3:12 refers to unbelief as springing from an “evil heart” and vss 18-19 of that same chapter refer to the terrible consequences of “believing not” and “unbelief”. Reading Romans 4:20-21,and John 20:27 I am  instructed  to be fully persuaded that God will fulfill His promises and to be not “faithless”. My dear Lord Jesus, may I never hear you say to me, “Why did you doubt, O you of little faith.” Help me to be strong in faith, thus giving glory to God”

Psalm 100:2    Add the word “gladly” to anything you have to or would like to do and see the difference it makes.  If I am to serve my Lord with enthusiasm and fervor, Colossians 3:23, then it certainly transforms that endeavor when I do it “gladly”.   We have all watched young children running and playing, and remarked that “we wished we had their energy.”   Perhaps if we had their joyful enthusiasm  about doing  everything in life, we could have that same energy.  How much more would I accomplish if I did not feel lazy or mustered up some excitement and enthusiasm about  what I was doing, especially as “unto the Lord”..The wonder of eternally dividends, the victories won, but most of all the smiling face of our Lord, when we hear His “well done”…The big word today is " alacrity", and you will find that it means “cheerful willingness”.   I am wondering if all of us who have named the name of our Lord Jesus,  would serve ,and do what we do for Him with this kind of attitude, just how much more could be accomplished and have such a more lasting and positive impact?  Too much of what we do is done out of “necessity” instead of “cheerfully”, for our Lord loves a “cheerful giver”…Why not add a new word and a refreshed attitude to your personality and endeavors and see how it makes life and service  abound with satisfaction and excitement?...tmw

‘ G U E S T “    Luke 19:7   Think of the wonder and excitement of having our Lord Jesus as a guest in your house !  The interested student of the Word, notes that the word “guest” here means to “unloose”, like your sandals, robe or belt.  Come on in, relax, unwind, and make your self at home.  Home is where we should treat guests like family and family like guests !...There are “guests” present here at Blaise Baptist Church almost every Lord’s Day, and we want that they should feel welcome, at ease, and part of the family.  Especially feeling loved and open to the hearing of God’s Word. It is my practice to ask folks who have visited , “What was it that first impressed you about Blaise Church?”   Most often it is something like “the friendliness of the people”, “the warm welcome we received” or the “genuine love of the people”. (Once in while it is even "the preaching"!) My heart is blessed when I hear such comments, because , if anything, God’s people should be loving, cordial, and hospitable.  If you have never been to one of our worship services, why not come this Sunday, or least on April 5th for our big 49th Anniversary celebration, and let me know what impressed you about the people and atmosphere in this place.   I would be honored to meet you and welcome you as my :”guest” !....blessings, tmw

“F R A M E  T H E  W O R L D “

Sign on a local business this week said, “Get the big picture, frame the world”. I thought that would make a great missions statement for any New Testament church. If we are to be an Acts 20:20 church, than we must see the entire world in need of our Savior. The problem most folks have with their vision is either near or far sighted. We can see print and objects up close but not far away, or we can see clearly things a a distance, but not up close. If we are an active obedient part of our Lord’s workers in His Vineyard, we must be able to see folks from up close as well as from a distance. Missions is not only across the seas, but across the street. Lets “frame the world”, and see it as our God does, multitudes without our Lord, and in need of our Saviour. You are needed in this greatest of all endeavors in getting out the Gospel both at home and abroad.    Blessings, tmw

FEBRUARY 2009

“M A D E  T O  B E  B R O K E N “

One of my most memorable hearings of this expression was with a young pastor and his wife.  They were taking Netta and me to one of my first speaking engagements at a small church in the mountains just west of Chattanooga, Tennessee.  The young bride was disappointed that here husbands promise to take here out for Sunday dinner would have to be postponed, and her response was, “your promises are like pie crust, they are made to be broken!”    Netta and I have often smiled at the humor of that situation, as well as the profound truth of this expression, “made to be broken.”  There are several illustrations in God’s Word, as well as every day life, of this simple truth; Gideon’s vessels, the chains of sin, prison bars of slavery to sin, our Lord’s body sacrificed for us, no less the seal on His tomb.   Perhaps the most recognizable is “Records are made to be broken”. Thanks to our Lords blessings and your prayers and efforts, the attendance records in our Bible Fellowship continue to be broken!  Three times in the first eight weeks of this new year records have been set and then broken.  Last Lord’s Day the “old” record of three weeks  was broken with 330 in Bible Fellowship!  How long will this new record stand?  I hope no more that a couple of weeks don’t you?  As we move forward in the great endeavor of the Gospel, the combined worship services beginning April 5th, will avail us of opportunities for our worship and growing Bible Fellowship to set and break records of growth and blessings in he the work of our Savior here at BBC.   Thank you for your part.

A member of a certain church, who previously had been attending services
regularly, stopped going. After a few weeks, the preacher decided to visit him.
>
> It was a chilly evening. The preacher found the man at home alone, sitting
before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason for
his preachers visit, the man
welcomed him, led him to a comfortable chair near the fireplace and waited.
>
> The preacher made himself at home but said nothing. In
> the grave silence, he contemplated the dance of the flames around the
burning logs. After some minutes, the preacher took the fire tongs, carefully
picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all
alone then he sat back in his chair, still silent.
>
> The host watched all this in quiet contemplation. As the one lone
ember's flame flickered and diminished, there was a momentary glow and then
its fire was no more. Soon
> it was cold and dead.
>
> Not a word had b een spoken since the initial greeting. The
preacher
glanced at his watch and realized it was time to leave. He slowly stood up,
picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire.
Immediately it began to glow, once more with the light and warmth of the burning

“ MY-BRAINE”        I know I spelled it wrong..it should be “migraine”.   But when you have had a severe one like I had yesterday, the spelling is unimportant. In fact, spell it any way you want to, it still hurts and can cause blurry vision, throbbing pain on one side of the head, and even nausea. Whether from stress, caffeine, tension, food reactions, chocolate, etc…the results are the same, and those who have experienced them can testify that they are debilitating at the least and life threading at the worst.  In fact, there are moments when you wish someone would come in and put you out of your misery!!...Light and noise both enhance the pounding, and I even had to ask the cat not to stomp his feet!!...Enough of that…I am back vertical today, in my study and getting ready for the Lord’s Day. If nothing more, the “bugs”, flu’s, mybrains, and all the other pains that come our way, all remind us of how weak the flesh is, and of our complete dependence upon our Lord. “The breath of man is in his nostrils ‘Isaiah 2:22, and we all know how quickly it can be gone. Thus, I am reminded to live each day to my Lord, rejoice in His goodness, love Him supremely, love others, (they could be having a day of pain too), and endeavoring to reach others with the good news of our Savior. Glad day it will be when our God wipes away all tears from our eyes and the former things are all passed away. Heaven can not be too far off. Stop and smell the roses, appropriate His all-sufficiency, and smile! A better day is coming……tmw

“ S I G N A T U R E “   Nahum 1:3,7   Ever notice the signature of a person?  Everyone is different and the experts tell us that a persons signature reveals something about a person.   One of the most famous of course in the JOHN HANCOCK right in the center of the Declaration of Independence.  It may never be known the cost in “lives, fortunes and sacred honor” that independence cost those hearty and determined souls. It is good that the believing child of God readily recognizes the Hand and signature of God of  all the events that  come his way.   Add to your list of verses to memorize, Romans 8:28, and Genesis 50:20.   When Joseph was sold by his brothers, betrayed by the Butler, falsely accused by Potiphars wife, he must have wondered where God could be.  But as time passed, he came to the happy realization that God was at work in his life, and finally   came to understand and believe that God’s signature was on ever event that took place.  God is good, ( Nahum 1:7) even when things may be going bad.  God signs His name to the events and things that befall me and puts in all the ingredients that will mix together and cause me to come out of the refiners fire as pure gold.  God has not put His final signature on the canvas of your life yet, but rest assured that when He does, it will be good, all good, and nothing but good as you believe that it is the signature and not just the painting that makes your life valuable and precious to God.   You will find it, if you look for God’s signature on every day and every event that comes your was.   tmw

" R E S O L V E D "  I Corinthians 15:58     It is good for the trusting child of God to determine in his heart to a steadfast and victorious  commitment to His Lord and His work.   It is a good resolve to commit to Bible study,  and the continual “hiding of God’s Word in one’s heart”. Ask the Lord to grow your knowledge of the great “DOCTRINES” of His word.  This is a practical time of the year to determine to increase my giving to my Lord and His work.   Where ever you are in your giving, trust the Lord to help you increase the percentage of your weekly giving, and grow in this area of “DOLLARS” too.  Ask the Lord to put your name on the “cheerful givers” list, and not on the “grudgingly or necessity” list.  Think of how wonderful it is to be asked of God to be a participant in His financial plans for His church and the getting out of the Gospel.   And then, if you have not already, “RESOLVE” in your heart to be faithful to the work of God in His church.  There is no greater endeavor in life than to be involved in the work of the Lord.  Your Holy Spirit empowered efforts will result in “gold, silver and precious stones” for eternity.  Only our Lord knows the lives you will impact for His glory.  Some part of our service to our Savior springs from the realization that, as His bondservant, I have a DUTY to be completely dedicated to Him and His work.   By the help and grace of our King Jesus, RESOLVE now to commit to the great DOCTRINES of the Word, being honest and generous with your DOLLARS to His cause, and a renewed sense of DUTY as a “good soldier of Jesus Christ”.      tmw

You have wondered what gift you would present to our Lord Jesus? Interesting to the student of the Word, that when the wise men came into the house where they found the Lord Jesus, the first thing they did was to fall down and worship Him !...and then we read that their worship led them to open their treasures and present to Him gifts. It should go without saying, that genuine worship includes giving out of our treasures and possessions to present to Him. It is impossible to really worship Him and not give to Him..yet you can give to Him and not really worship Him. Give our Lord your best…your gold because He is King, Frankincense because He is God, and Myrrh because He is our Savior…What are some of the gifts that the New Testement admonishes me to give to our dear Lord Jesus today?....Here is a partial list: My Body, Romans 12:1;  My Praise, Hebrews 13:15; My Service, Romans 1:1; as you consider Col 3:17, 23 you will discover that whatever you do you can so as unto the Lord…Give God your will and surrender to Him daily; John3:30   This Christmas just may be the greatest one ever, as you learn and practice what our Lord Jesus is pleased with…that is, the giving of your self and you abilities for His use and service.

Getting Ready For Christmas       Isaiah 40:3
            by: Timothy M. Wolf

Just last week, I was reminded of how much time and effort go into "getting ready" for special days.  Netta spent much time planning her menu and setting the table for Thursday’s big event.  No sooner has Thanksgiving Day past than shopping, cards, menu's, calendars, parties, programs and decorations all begin to occupy our time and money for one great event on Christmas.  I am challenged by the instruction in God's Word to "prepare" and "make ready" for the coming of our Lord Jesus!
When I read Isaiah 40:3 and Luke 22:12-13, I ask myself just what am I doing to make crooked places straight, rough places smooth, raising up the low places, and leveling out the mountains?  Have I joined with the disciples in setting the table, sweeping the floor, buying the groceries for the meal and "preparing for His appearing"?
As we move into these wonderful days, be reminded that your part in "making ready" for our Lord's arrival and appearing is of vital importance.  Let's make sure that the "upper room" of our hearts, as well as a full gleaning of the Harvest, will bring a smile to Jesus’ face and praise to our King when He arrives!

You have wondered what the sound of our Lord’s voice was like.  All of us know distinctive sounding voices.   There are high pitched voices, mediun and low pitced voices.  But there is something about the strong, authoritative voice of truth and conviction, that settles even the most troubled heart.  There was something assuring and calming about the voice of my dad.  His wisdom, experience, love and command always seemed to control the most difficult of situations.  When our Lord Jesus walked on the waves and saw His troubled disciple panic stricken with fear, He spoke to them and said, “It is alright, I am here”.  No wonder men confessed that he taught and spoke with authority.  Matthew 7:29  Would it not behoove us to listen to His Word, let Him speak to our hearts, calm our fears, and allay our worries?  Believe what He says, and rest on the fact that, “…He speaks and the sound of His voice is so sweet the birds hush their singing,”  the winds cease, the waves subside, and peace floods our hearts and minds.   Are you listening?   TMW

"POWER AND GLORY"

My dear fellow saints, and companions in the Gospel….my text for this week is Psalm 63:1-2…would you agree with me that a longing desire of every sincere child of God, would be to see His power and His glory revealed to us?.....Since our God delights in demonstrating Himself to us through His Word,  then we should PRAY and attend expecting that to take place !   A read a commentary this week on I Peter 5:7, that quoted the verse and then said about the end of the verse..that “He careth for you”…then just let Him !!...great, lets  just “let Him”…Let Him take care of us, Let Him demonstrate His power and glory, Let Him be honored and glorified in our gatherings, Let Him prove Himself to provide for us even in dark , difficult and dangerous times…just “let Him” meet your need what ever it is and as we meet at the Throne of Grace, would you join with me in asking Him to, once again grant us the wonder of seeing His power and glory revealed in the edifying of His people, the salvation of lost souls, and the welcoming home of the wandering….will be delighted to see you this Lord’s Day, with hearts full of anticipation, the love of God in our hearts and a friend by our side…I love you, TM

“U N T I L  T H E  D A Y B R E A K “    Song of Solomon 2:17
In the darkness, the trees in our back yard are black, bleak and soldier like statues that appear lifeless and unattractive.  The impatiens around the large red oak in the center of the yard are almost indistinguishable and colorless, the lush green grass, only a few weeks sprouted from seed, is dark and apparently lifeless too.  But then, a wonder of transformation begins!  A single shaft of light reaches thru the trees in the front yard, a golden walk way of sunlight opens across the grass as the dew glistens on the tender green blades, the trunks of the trees seem to be silver, the cedar, the oak, the dogwood, the weeping cherry all seem to spring to life at the beckoning of the sun.  Their leaves sparkle, the impatiens at the base of the big oak now reveal their fluorescent colors.  It is daybreak !  The sun and its brilliant morning light, unlike any other part of the day, has transformed the darkness into beauty .  And, did you know, that is what God is doing the the lives of those who trust His Son, (the Light of the world, John 8:12) as their Savior?  He dispels darkness, transforms the dark , unknown and ugly, into beauty and life.  And then, some glorious DAYBREAK, He is coming again and the long dark night of this world will be over and we shall spend endless day with Him.  tmw

"WHAT IS YOUR ADDRESS?"

Psalm 91:1
All of us know "so called" impressive addresses.  You are thinking of some already; 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., 10 Downing street, Pebble Beach, Carmel-by-the-sea, Brickel Ave., Hollywood, The Hamptons, Long Island, NY, etc, etc.  Interesting, that King David of Israel, who had at his command all that could be desired for a great home in any location, finally realized that the greatest place to live, is in the house of God, under the shadow of the Almighty.   In Psalm 27:4, David states the single most important desire of his heart, that being, to live (dwell), be at home, in the house of the Lord.   The redeemed child of God "can't feel at home in this world anymore" and just as there are places where we feel uncomfortable because we are "out of place", so we can "make ourselves at home" when we are in God's house.  He has told us that He is making a place for us in Father's House, John 14:2, and will return soon and take us home. What will be your "address" for eternity?...make sure it is not "Hell", the address of shame...but that it is on "Grace & Mercy" street in Heaven, Home of the redeemed !...tmw

Mark 14:9

How can  we place a value upon the Gift you plan to give to our Lord on “Break Your Box” Sunday?  We know the “then known” amount of Mary’s gift, but how could we calculate it’s on going increase as her story has been repeated around the world?  Mary’s public gift has become an example of heartfelt devotion.  She made no excuse of wanting to remain anonymous…Her love and devotion to her Lord who had forgiven her sins, knew no limits or embarrassment.  What and why she gave in known worldwide.  The Word of God defines us as STEWARDS. A STEWARD is a trusted, responsible servant over all that is entrusted to him…Thus the value of my gift is judged not only by its size, but the attitude of my heart and the motive behind it.  Do not be intimidated by the Devil or false humility.  Openly acknowledged gifts do not limit the Gospel, they advance it.  Your giving will encourage others to give.   Giving is defined as “honoring the Lord”  Proverbs 3:9   Would you join Netta and me in honoring our Lord with a special “Breaking of our Box” gift to Him and His Word.   This just might be the most exciting and historical day of GIVNG we have experience here at BBC to date…Don’t miss it !!...TMW

August 2008

Today is July29th, and it is exactly one week ago today that I was riding the trolleyup to the top of Corcovado mountain, then climbing the 222 stairs to the base of the 125' statue of "Christ the Redeemer" that over looks the city of Rio di Janeiro. If you like large monuments and high vista's, ( it is 2,330' above the city !) than you are certainly impressed with the view from way up here !..In fact, at certain places, it is almost scary near the edge of the precipice over looking the teaming city far below.    I wondered, as i looked at the magnificant structure, if our Living Lord wept over the millions of souls He saw below , as He did over the city of Jerusalem long ago?  Luke 19:41    Tragic, is it not, that to many people, the Lord Jesus is nothing more than just a statue.  Never having had a personal relationship with Him, not knowing that He is really alive and wants to come into their heart.  They only see him as a staute to be revered and not a Living Saviour to be received.     By the way, Do you know Him? Is He just a cold, never changing expression, lifeless , man created monument, or can you say in all truthfulness..."You ask me how i know He lives, He lives within my heart?!"..tmw

Paul was unhesitating in his request to the folks and Thessolonica, to remember him in prayer…specifically, that the Word of God  would have free course and be glorified.  II Thess 3:1…and so I make no apology in asking you to do the same for me…that as the Word of our God is opened at this pulpit , read and taught , each Lord’s Day..that it would be done under the full influence and power of the Holy Spirit…When I read in Acts 14:1 in the NLT and the KJV, that Paul and Barnabas spoke with such power, and “so spake” that many believed, I am motivated to ask our Lord to do the same thing for me and that folks who come here would have their hearts opened to the Savior…and so this is my prayer request to you who read this brief article…pray for the Holy Spirit to rest upon this undeserving servant, and that I would “so speak” that hearts would be open to what our Lord wants to do in the heart and life of each hearer. I depend and count upon your prayers and interest in this the greatest of all endeavors… your friend, TMW

“ E V E R Y  T H I N G  & E V E R Y O N E “
Matthew 8:33

An amazing miracle had just taken place right before the eyes of the disciples and hog keepers.  Two demon possessed men had just be delivered by the power of the Word of our Lord.  So radical was their change, that the keepers of the hogs ran to the nearby town and told everyone there everything that happened !  The NLT in Matthew 8 and vs 33 uses the words “telling everyone what happened.”  The KJV informs us that they went into the city and “and told everything”.   When I contemplate the impact of these two statements together, I am compelled to do the same, and endeavor to tell “everyone” “everything” that the dear Lord Jesus has done for me.  Have you been delivered from the shackles of sin that Satan has bound you with? If you have, than it seems to me that those of us who have experienced His miracle working power, should be busy telling folks what has transpired, as well as an obvious lifestyle that reflects His wonderful grace.  In fact, our Lord tells the delivered man, to go and tell folks what He has done for him, and tell them of His compassion for sinners…there will be an eternity to sit at His feet and behold His wonderful face and thank Him for coming our way one glad day with the glad news of freedom from sin and Satan’s shackles…..TMW

P R A Y E R .     I have often quoted the eighth line of this powerful poem either while praying or encouraging folks to pray...and how true it is !!...contemplate these great lines and meditate on their import...and then why not determine that you will be a regular and often participant in this most wonderful of privileges of the children of God....seems as though the words of Joseph Scriven agree...."O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer".... Lord, what a change within us one short hour
Spent in Thy presence will prevail to make !
What heavy burdens from our bosoms take:
What parched grounds refresh, as with a shower.
We kneel---and all around us seems to lower;
We rise---and all, the distant and the near,
Stands forth in sunny outline, brave and clear:
We kneel: how weak!---we rise: how full of power !

Why, therefore, should we do ourselves this wrong,
Or others---that we are not always strong?
That we are ever overborne with care;
That we should ever weak and heartless be,
Anxious or troubled, while with us in prayer,
And joy, and strength, and courage are with Thee.

“ W H A T  CAN  “ I “ D O ? “   I PETER 1:22

Ever wonder what part you could have in serving our Lord and His people? Do you ask how you can best serve the Savior in helping His church function effectively?  It is amazing how little oil it takes on a  hinge to take out the “squeek” and make it move smoothly.  YOU could be the oil on the hinge, the  healing sauve on a sore, the link in the chain, the salt on the food that makes the taste so much better, the icing on the cake, and any number of “so-called” little things that make the larger parts move without friction….here a a few things from the Word of God that the saints are told to do that like Mary’s ointment , are very costly, and really fragrance the body of our Lord.1.) Exhort  Hebrews 3;13, 10:24  2.) Forgive  Ephesians 4:32   3.) Restore Galatians 6:1   4.) Comfort  II Corinthians 1:4   5.)  Prefer  Romans 12:10   Pick out 1 or 2 “fragrances” and ask the Holy Spirit to use you to apply them to help “sweeten” the lives of others and effect a testimony for our Lord.  You will be surprised what it will do for you as you do for others….there really is something you can do !!!..... N E T S
Of my three sons,  one takes care of his tools and equipment with meticulous care…the other seems to care little as to their condition,,,just so they work when he needs them..the third one in the group seems quite content to let someone else maintain their efficiency….most of us fall into one of those two or three categories.  It was a glad day for me when I realized that it is no waste of time to spend time fixing and maintaining tools to get the job done….whether it be tools for a job, life or ministry.  Some folks in their zeal and excitement feel like it is a waste of time to keep things in working order.   The careful student of the Word of  God, notices that there are at least three references to “nets” in the gospel narratives…I. Casting  II. Cleaning  III.  Mending   We all seem to like the “casting”…the getting out there and fishing, but seem to shun the “cleaning” and “mending”….it becomes quite obvious the casting is greatly curtailed and hindered if the nets are “dirty”, or broken….We do well , if we are to be effective and efficient fisher man, to keep our nets clean and repaired….Is your effectiveness for our Lord hindered because of a dirty or broken net?  Could it be that because if fail to take time to clean my nets, ie , spend time in the Word, fellowship with my Lord in prayer, frequent the appointed place of quietness in His presence, that my nets are dirty?  Or worse yet, are my nets broken from tugging, strain, rocks, misuse, and neglected upkeep, that “fish” are getting through and I am ineffective for my Lord….Here at BBC we endeavor to help folks wherever they are with their nets…casting, washing or mending, to  become more effective for our Lord…Be present this Lord’s Day, and see how you can cast farther or in the most effective place for a catch…lets us assist you in the necessary “washing” in a class where the love of our Lord and His people will help you get back into the most useful place of service..and if you need mending, then we desire to love you back to wholeness and completeness so you can get back to the “casting” part and be effective for our Lord…What cycle are you in with your NETS?....

Acts 9:6
What was your response when the Lord Jesus Christ saved you?   Since He has done so much for you, what have you offered to do for Him?   The “little-big” word  that we have been emphasizing recently reveals the entire heart attitude of the child of God.  Have you said “Yes” to the Lord Jesus when He asks you to help Him with a task?  Have you said “Yes” when He commands you to take steps of obedience?  If you have said “Yes” to His invitation to accept His salvation, have you said “Yes” to His instruction to that which follows?   “Yes” to following Him in believers baptism?  “Yes” to telling others of what He has done for you,  “Yes” to reading His word, “Yes” to keeping the unity of His people?  “Yes” to systematic giving? The world has coined the phrase, just say “No”, and that is right when if comes to drugs and sin----but the Christians watchword to the Person and will of our Savior is  “YES”….Will you say “Yes” to Him ?...tmw

B O T H

Almost four decades of ministry have brought attention to the ongoing need of balance in our Christian experience...Seems to me that maintaining the ability to be and use the gifts of God to be BOTH salt and light requires effort and commitment.   Some saints are all salt--and the danger is either too much  or not enough....Some saints are all light...too bright with self-centeredness or too dim and hidden under a bushel, out of view to help those in darkness.     Our Lord in Matthew 5  told His disciples that they were BOTH salt and light...Matthew 5:13-14...But in doing so He warned of the dangers of the salt being "good for nothing", and of the "bushel hiding the light"...A good amount of salt enhances the tasteless, and the proper light illuminates the path of life.  The purpose of these two indispensible commodities is to create thirst for the Living Water, and glorify our Father which is in Heaven....Let's ask our Lord to enable us to be BOTH, in the right amounts so that we are used of Him to draw men to His saving grace and love....tmw

Commencement!

I wondered at the time when I finished High School and then college, why those graduation ceremonies were called commencement!?? I was “finishing” three years of high school and then crammed four years of college into five years of endeavor! How, after all that time and effort was this referred to as “a beginning” or “start” when I thought I was finishing something?

Truth is, I, like all my classmates was just beginning and entering the real world. Getting started in life, the “work day” world of job, bills, house, cars, conflicts, problems and blessings!

My Dad often told me that I should enjoy these years of schooling as these were some of the best days of my life, and he was right!

Now we have “finished” a new building here at BBC and it is only finished in the construction phase. It is the commencement and open doorway to a larger expanding increase in our Lord’s work. We start another chapter in the ongoing ministry of the Word of God on this corner.

I know you will join me in believing that our Lord will use this new “tool” He has placed in our hands to increase our efforts for His glory, the edifying of the saints, the salvation of souls and outreach to this needy world around us.

I will look for you this Lord’s Day as we anticipate what our God will do here in this wonderful place.   TMW

B L E S S I N G S
You have wondered, as I have, just how and why God blesses us.   The word “bless” is used not only of God toward man…Numbers 6:24-25…and carries the meaning of praise, abundance, provision, and worth…but it is also used of man toward God…read Psalm 103:1  The real truth is that our God blesses us even though we are undeserving and unworthy……for the rain falls on the just and the unjust.   One classic example is found in Genesis 26:12…where we read of Isaac’s crops yielding a 100% over his sowing…just because God blessed him…and this even inspite of the fact that in the previous verses we read that he lied about his wife being  his sister !!...I know that you join me in glad praise to our Lord that His daily provision and extravagance is not based solely on how good we are or even the horribleness of our sin….His mercy and His grace far abound and overwhelm our sin and He is kind even to the evil and unthankful…Luke 6:35….read that great text and be encouraged !!...not so as to continue in sin,  but to rejoice and thank our Lord for His lovingkindnesses and tender mercies which are new every morning !!...and that all the air we can breath, all the water we can drink,  our daily bread, and sufficient clothing are all ours..and that because of His open hand of blessing…Proverbs 10:22….why not think of ways that you can use God’s rich and abundant blessings for His glory, and the good of others…”BLESSINGS”

January 2008

Sad, is it not , how we limit our God ! At 4 o'clock this morning, I awoke praying for this Lord's Day, and Dedication sunday.  I sensed a strong feeling of confession and regret that I had limited my Lord to all the projected"advice" of  the "experts", in stead of asking our Lord just to increase our attendance, add to our number, save souls, and fulfill our goals, I claimed Jeremiah 33:3 again and asked Him to honor His

word and Name by overwhelming us, first of all with a genuine awareness of His presence, than the salvation of souls, an unprecedented attendance, and an offering that would reflect an out-poured blessing of His extravagance.   I am asking you to join me in expecting that these next 3 sundays  will be but the threshold of an entrance into realms we have never known before !! All to the honor of our
God and Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord !!

Where do you live??... Psalm 91:1

What a lovely place to dwell!!...all of us have been asked as to where we live….even or Lord’s disciples asked Him where He lived?...John 1:38  It is important the God dwell with us…but much more important that we dwell with Him…..in fact, He has told us that in His Fathers house are many mansions, and that He is now preparing a place for His prepared people…David expressed this great desire to dwell in the house of the Lord in Psalm 27:4.  Nothing is more important in life than this..to know for sure that you dwell in the Houseof the Lord and to behold the beauty of the Lord for all eternity. You will do your self a favor for heart and mind to search out some more references in this “old Book” that speak of where the best place to live is….one all time favorite is Psalm 23:6…Much more important than where we live down here, North or South, East or West, or what our local address is..or on what “side of the tracks” we live on,  will be our address for eternity !!...Hell is the address of shame,  Heaven and Fathers House if the address of joy, peace, praise, light and life for ever….what will you address and “dwelling place” once you “move” from here ???

"Dedicated!"

It was D.L. Moody who said "Never underestimate the power of a man totally dedicated to Christ." If our world, society, city, county, and church ever needed men totally dedicated and committed to our Lord Jesus Christ, we need them today.

We have had enough lukewarm, lackadasical, half-hearted, vasilating, nonchalante service and love for our Lord. May our Lord empower and call us to "step over the line" and make a full surrender to our Savior and Lord in totality of loyalty to Him.

Would you join me in this great endeavor? I read Acts 15:26 of men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. How can we do less? Our Lord is not calling on very many of His own to die for Him today, but He is calling upon us to LIVE for Him! What will you do for the One who died for you?

Enlist today.

"Take Away the Stone"

Have you ever wondered why the One who can raise the dead, did not by a single command, remove the stone from the entrance to the tomb? Which of the two tasks was the most difficult? To remove the stone seems almost incidental to the greater miracle of calling the dead back to life.

The wonder for us is that our Lord delights in using human instrumentality to help Him accomplish His purposes. I am thrilled to think that I may be included in 1 Corinthians 3:9, "...a laborer WITH and FOR God."

Would you join with us here at Blaise Baptist Church in "rolling away the stones," so that our Lord can, by His Word, call folks from death to life, darkness to light, and into "the glorious liberty of the sons of God."

There is an on-going and growing need for more "helpers" to get the stones out of the way. Come and put your shoulder to the wheel here at BBC.

"FIRE!"

What one word carries so much meaning? As I am writing this morning, I am watching the news of fires raging in California. The strong Santa Ana winds are whipping the flames into unbelievable fury. Landmarks are being destroyed. A church building has been consumed by the indescriminate flames, mansions have succumbed to the all-consuming sirrocco, and all the residents have been ordered to evacuate.

That old song comes to mind, "O my lovin' brother, when the world's on fire... Don't you want God's bosom to be your pillow?"

What would your heart attitude be if you lost your home, possessions, and wealth today? "Fervent Heat" will melt the elements someday.

2 Peter 3:10, and it would behove us to make sure our greatest possessions are in Heaven. Think about it!

"Are you Happy?"

Psalm 146  Read this Chapter

Happiness is perhaps the world's most sought after feeling. Would you define yourself as happy? If quizzed by someone, would you define yourself as happy? Psalm 146:5 describes the happy person. Happiness is not an end in itself, but rather the by-product of knowing and doing the will of God. It is the awareness that the Creator God is that person's helper and hope- that God is the ever-present one who will sustain and provide your every need. That truth arises out of His power as Creator (verse 6), promise keeper, justice provider (verse 7), feeder of the hungry, the One who frees of the prisoner, and the One who lifts the burdens of the heavy laden.
You, too, can find real happiness when you come into the love and care of "such a redeemer as mine." It is no small wonder this Psalm begins and ends with "Praise the Lord."

What Happens After Church?
Mark 1:29

The first 10-20 minutes after church are of utmost importance. Instead of "roast preacher" or a list of all the things that went wrong, one should ask family members what part of the service was most enjoyable, a shower of blessing and encouragement.
Our text tells us that when our Lord and His disciples left the synagogue, they went to the house of Simon and Andrew.
It would be wonderful to bring the Lord Jesus home after worship.  When you do bring Him home, He will help you (see Mark 1:30-31), bless you with His presence, and provide areas of service for you.
Why not let our Lord grace your Sunday table and let the conversation center on Him. Your food will be much more enjoyable and the meal time and prayer time will not be lost time.

Life

It has been said that the only trouble with life is that it is so daily. How true!
How do you respond to life? If you "react," then self is in control. If you "respond," the God is in control.
It is clear to us all that we can plan our actions but not our reactions.
Good for us that our Lord is not only "the life," but the life-giver, and that abundant.
Well did the chorus writer pen, "Life begins when Jesus comes in, bringing joy and gladness within, gone sin and sorrow and bright each tomorrow, for Life begins, when Jesus comes in."
Thus, the only remaining question is, "Is He in your react?" Do you know the giver of life? If not, why not? He stands at the door of your heart and seeks entrance. Bid Him enter while you may.

Missed!

Have you ever missed at appointment or flight connection? On our first flight to the West Coast, Netta and I observed a frantic lady and her three children running toward their gate of departure. As they approached the windows nearest their gate, to their worst fears, they saw their flight being towed from its place out onto the tarmac. They had missed the flight by mere minutes and would have to wait for another connection.
All of us have experienced missed appointments and opportunities. But, to miss God's invitation and day of salvation would be horrible beyond comprehension.
Do not miss...

I. The Day of Salvation
Read 2 Corinthians 6:2    This just might be your day to open the door of your heart and welcome in the Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord.
II. The Day of Service
Put together John 4:35 and John 9:4
It is quite clear from our Lord's words that the time will come when service to, and for Him, will cease. "As we therefore have the opportunity, let us do good to all...."
III. The Day of Sacrifice
Have you ever wished you had given to or done more for a loved one? Have you "given yourself to the Lord," and invested what you have to his service? 2 Corinthians 8:5
Why not today? Ask our Lord to help you be alert to opportunities that you can seize for His glory! May we not come to the end of our days, echoing those tragic words, "If only I had..."

Dad!

What a great word! Seems like just about every family has a slightly different title or pronunciation. Opie, on the Andy Griffin Show, called his dad, "Paw." From the use of the formal "Father" to the simplest "Da-Da," we all know of who we speak.
I am calling those of you who are fathers to determine in your heart to be all the Dad that God wants you to be.
Boys grow up to be the better or worse because of their father's influence.
Be a father of:
1. Priority- keep God first, next your wife, and then your children. Let your children see and know that you love and obey God. Adore and love their mother. Also, let your children know that they are a treasure from God to you.
2. Prayer- Let your wife and children hear you voice your faith in, dependence upon, and praise to God.
3. Purity- Always do what is right. Make sure your character overshadows convenience.
4. Provision- Above the physical and material, give huge doses of love, patience, understanding, guidance, mercy, fogiveness, advice, warning, protection, and encouragement.

December 2006

Many have had loved ones pass from this life to the next this year. May this poem bring comfort to you during this season:

I've had my first Christmas in Heaven
A glorious wondrous day
I stood with the saints of the ages
Who found Christ the Truth and the Way
I sang with the Heavenly choir
Just think, I longed so to sing
and oh , what celestial music
We brought our Saviour and King

We sang the glad songs of redemption
How Jesus to Bethlehem came
And how they had called His name Jesus
That all might be saved through His name
We sang once again with the angels
The song that they sang that blest morn
When shepherds first heard the glad story
That Jesus, the Savior, was born.

Oh loved one, I wish you had been there.
No Christmas on earth could compare
With all the rapture and glory
We witnessed in Heaven, so fair.
You know how I always loved Christmas,
It seemed such a wonderful day
With all of my loved ones around me
The children so happy and gay.

Yes, now I can see why I loved it
And, oh, what a joy it will be
When you and my loved ones are with me
To share in the glories I see.
So, dear ones on earth, here's my greeting
Look up till the day dawn appears
And, oh, what a Christmas awaits us
Beyond all our parting and tears.
